PART 2: ....I am scared that people will think I am not grateful and that they’re just going to tell me to just “buck up” and “that’s just how is it for artists” 🎹 …to which in my mind I reply with a sad yet determined and trying-to-soften heart: fuck that. It doesn’t have to be. I sure as hell can’t do this alone. Let’s champion each other for asking for help when we need it and stop the artist martyr competition. That is some patriarchal, out-dated bullshit that feels so sad to me. I personally support 13 artists with recurring monthly contributions and it brings me such joy. I want to inspired others to do the same💛🙌🏼🦅 So may it be clear: I am SO very grateful for the support I have received. Truly. AND, being completely honest in order for this mission to continue growing and expanding I am going to need more people backing it. Straight up🙏🏼 PART 3, which may be my last music video for a while, coming tomorrow💋
PART 1: THE TRUTH. Sometimes it sneaks up on me. I think I’m in a groove, creating and sharing and managing all the things, then I start to feel a little tired. I usually attribute it to other things at first (the weather, astrology, etc) because I am strong and can handle it all by myself, right? 😬 Then I start to feel a little out of tune, lethargic, and then the kicker: bitter. WARNING KAITLIN: YOU HAVE REACHED OVEREXTENSION. As you all have been witnessing, I’ve been sharing a lot more content online than ever. Vulnerable shares, edgy shares, update on projects shares, etc. Some of them take a LOT more time to put together than I imagine most folks realize. So I tallied it up to get a sense of how much I have invested in this part of my work that is OUTSIDE of my private practice, aka outside of what I get paid for. In the past year and namely in the past 6 months I have🎹🎤: *recorded 2 full albums (released one in November, releasing the next in July) as my own manager *been a co-creator, performer, producer, and tour manager for a social justice theater piece and toured it in 4 states *caught, recorded, edited and uploaded 25 harmony videos (each of which take at least 2 hours) and then freely shared the audio of each song on Soundcloud *written, recorded, edited and uploaded 7 spoken word pieces …..plus a wholle lot more computer/organizing work that weaves in-between all of them.☀️ I have given all of these freely and even paid a lot to do them myself (equipment, studio time, etc). Thank God for my patrons who have been with me this past year- they have helped so very much. But taking a step back and honestly looking at what’s ahead: at this rate and with this much output of new material, that current monthly amount is no longer sustainable. So am I here to complain? Absolutely not. I am here to presence something very real for me that actually feels way more vulnerable than some of the things I’ve been sharing recently bc part of me feels petrified of what people may think 💛Part 2 tomorrow. ❤️
One year ago today we were in the studio The Institute for the Musical Arts. Giving every take absolutely all we had, listening back with intense focus, then getting tired and loopy and celebrating with our amazing team. Today, thanks to our incredible Massachusetts community support and the one and only @jasonrichmondsound we finally have the FINAL. MASTERED. VERSIONS.
